Electrical safety

Never touch plugs or sockets with wet hands

Dry your hands first before plugging in, unplugging, or using a switch.

Why it matters

Water increases the risk of electric shock. Even slightly damp fingers should not touch plugs, sockets, switches, or appliances connected to power.

Wrong action

Unplugging an appliance or touching a switch immediately after washing, while the hands are still wet.

Correct action

Move away from the water, dry both hands fully, and make sure the plug and socket area is dry before touching them.

What to do

  1. Stop before touching any plug, socket, or appliance.
  2. Move away from the water and dry both hands fully. If water is near the socket, do not touch the area.
  3. Hold the insulated plug body; never pull the cable.

If something happens

If someone receives an electric shock, do not touch them while they may still be connected to power. Switch off the supply only if safe and call 999 immediately.
