High-priority reminder

Last reviewed: 2026-10-12

Choose toys without detachable small parts. Wrong action: Choosing by appearance without checking age guidance, damage, or loose parts. Correct action: Choose an age-suitable toy, test attached parts, and remove it immediately if damaged.

Why it matters

Young children mouth objects, and a small part can block the airway.

Wrong action

Choosing by appearance without checking age guidance, damage, or loose parts.

Correct action

Choose an age-suitable toy, test attached parts, and remove it immediately if damaged.

What to do

  1. Read the age guidance and warnings first.
  2. Test eyes, wheels, buttons, and battery covers for security.
  3. Collect broken pieces after play and remove damaged toys.

If something happens

If the child cannot cough effectively, speak, or breathe, call 999 and follow dispatcher guidance or trained age-appropriate choking first aid. If unresponsive and not breathing normally, begin age-appropriate CPR following the dispatcher. Do not give drinks or blindly put fingers into the mouth.
