Electrical safety

Keep fan guards secure

Before switching on a fan, check both guards are locked; stop if damaged or loose.

High-priority reminder

Last reviewed: 2026-10-12

Keep fan guards secure. Wrong action: Running a fan with an unsecured guard or allowing a child close to it. Correct action: Secure every clip and screw, place the fan steadily, and keep it beyond children’s reach.

Why it matters

A missing or loose guard lets fingers, hair, or clothing contact moving blades.

Wrong action

Running a fan with an unsecured guard or allowing a child close to it.

Correct action

Secure every clip and screw, place the fan steadily, and keep it beyond children’s reach.

What to do

  1. Unplug before inspecting both guards.
  2. Fasten clips and screws, then test gently.
  3. Stop and arrange repair for cracks, missing parts, or unusual noise.

If something happens

For smoke, fire, or electric shock, keep clear, isolate power only if safe, and call 999. Do not touch a casualty while they may still be connected to electricity. Once power is safely isolated, follow dispatcher first aid; if unresponsive and not breathing normally, begin CPR as instructed.
