Severe weather and window safety

Remove standing water after heavy rain

Once conditions are safe, check plant saucers, air-conditioner trays, umbrella stands, and balcony items, then empty water.

High-priority reminder

Last reviewed: 2026-09-12

A helper wears gloves, empties plant saucers and an umbrella stand, and inverts containers

Why it matters

Small amounts of still water can breed mosquitoes, while wet areas also increase slip risk.

Wrong action

Leaving rainwater in plant saucers, buckets, folded covers, or air-conditioner trays for days.

Correct action

Wear gloves, empty and dry each item, invert or cover containers, and report water that cannot be removed.

What to do

  1. Wait until wind and rain have stopped and the area is safe.
  2. Empty and dry saucers, buckets, umbrella stands, and water-holding items.
  3. Invert or cover containers and report drainage or air-conditioner-tray problems.

If something happens

If water is near wiring, sockets, or damaged equipment, do not step in or touch it. Isolate the area, alert the employer and management, and call 999 for immediate danger.
