Slip and fall prevention

Keep the care bed low and wheels locked

After care or adjustment, return the bed to the employer-agreed low position and lock every wheel.

High-priority reminder

Last reviewed: 2026-09-12

A helper lowers a care bed and locks each wheel

Why it matters

A high or moving bed can increase fall risk when the person gets in, gets out, or transfers.

Wrong action

Leaving the bed raised after care or locking only some wheels.

Correct action

Return it to the agreed safe height, check every brake, and do not alter professional settings yourself.

What to do

  1. Clear obstacles beside the bed after care.
  2. Lower the bed to the agreed safe position.
  3. Lock every wheel and gently check that the bed does not move.

If something happens

If the bed moves suddenly or the person falls, stop and make the area safe. Do not force them up; follow the care plan and call 999 if serious.
