Chemical safety

Remove contaminated gloves without touching outside

Peel gloves off from the wrists so the contaminated surfaces fold inward, then discard them and wash your hands.

High-priority reminder

Last reviewed: 2026-09-12

Remove contaminated gloves without touching outside. Wrong action: Grab the dirty exterior with bare fingers and touch clean objects without washing. Correct action: Peel the first glove from its wrist, slide fingers under the second clean inner cuff, wrap both, discard, and wash.

Why it matters

The outside may hold germs or chemicals; gripping it with bare fingers can transfer contamination to skin and clean objects.

Wrong action

Grab the dirty exterior with bare fingers and touch clean objects without washing.

Correct action

Peel the first glove from its wrist, slide fingers under the second clean inner cuff, wrap both, discard, and wash.

What to do

  1. With one gloved hand, pinch the outside of the other glove at the wrist and peel it downward.
  2. Slide bare fingers under the clean inner cuff of the remaining glove and turn it inside out around the first glove.
  3. Place the bundle in the assigned waste bin and immediately wash your hands with soap.

If something happens

If chemicals or body fluids touch skin, rinse immediately; seek medical help for serious eye or skin exposure.
