After your helper starts: employer essentials

Minimum Allowable Wage (MAW)

HK$5,220 per month for Standard Employment Contracts signed on or after 2026-10-03.

The HK$5,100 rate applies to contracts signed from 2025-09-30 to 2026-10-02. Applications for contracts signed on or before 2026-10-02 at the previous rate must reach Immigration by 2026-10-30. Existing contracts are not automatically changed; pay the contractual wage. Wage and food allowance verified: 2026-10-13.

Food allowance

At least HK$1,236 per month if free food is not provided.

Employer financial requirement

Generally HK$15,000 monthly household income per helper, or comparable assets.

Rest day

At least one in every seven-day period, lasting at least 24 continuous hours.

2026 statutory holidays

15 days; use the current Labour Department list.

Live-in requirement

The helper must work and reside at the contract address during employment in Hong Kong.

Free medical treatment

Contract terms cover medical consultation, hospital maintenance and emergency dental treatment.

Employees' compensation insurance

The employer must take out employees’ compensation insurance for the helper.

Return passage

On completion or termination, the employer provides return passage under the contract and applicable law.

Termination

Generally one month’s written notice or wages in lieu; both parties notify Immigration in writing within seven days.
