Food safety

Do not overload the refrigerator

Leave gaps for cold air to circulate and buy in smaller batches when needed.

Standard safety rule

Last reviewed: 2026-09-09

Do not overload the refrigerator. Wrong action: Packing food against air outlets and walls until every space is full. Correct action: Remove expired or unnecessary items and keep airflow gaps around food and vents.

Why it matters

An overfilled fridge blocks cold-air circulation and may leave some food above a safe temperature.

Wrong action

Packing food against air outlets and walls until every space is full.

Correct action

Remove expired or unnecessary items and keep airflow gaps around food and vents.

What to do

  1. Check available fridge space before shopping.
  2. Keep food clear of air outlets and the back wall.
  3. Check temperature daily and rotate food first-in, first-out.

If something happens

If anyone becomes severely ill, vomits repeatedly, has breathing difficulty, or becomes unresponsive after eating, stop serving, call 999, and keep packaging and remaining food.
