How to Clean Pet Bedding and Blankets

Overview
Pet beds, covers and blankets differ in material and washability. Read the care label and maker directions first and use only an allowed method. Never assume machine washing, drying, temperature or product compatibility.

- Care label or maker instructions
- Dedicated pet-textile bag or basket
- Suitable vacuum attachment or hair-removal tool
- One care-label-permitted laundry product
- Clean drying area
- Handwashing supplies
Cleaning steps
Check care instructions and damage
Confirm limits for the cover, filling and removable parts. Stop and ask if the label is unclear or the item is torn.
Remove loose hair with ventilation
Move textiles away from food and litter areas. Gently collect loose hair with a suitable attachment or tool where debris can be cleaned.
Separate fabrics and removable parts
Sort by colour, material and care label. Keep pet textiles apart from kitchen cloths, feeding cloths and litter tools.
Wash exactly as permitted
Use only the allowed hand- or machine-wash method, cycle and one permitted product. Do not invent a temperature or mix products.
Remove residue and retain shape
Complete rinsing or residue removal as directed. Do not wring, stretch or clump the filling.
Dry fully as directed
Use only an allowed air- or machine-drying method. Return only when inside and outside are dry; clean tools and wash hands.
