Why it matters

Mixing bleach with other household cleaners can release harmful gas and irritate the eyes and breathing system. Never guess which products are safe to combine.

Wrong action

Pouring bleach, toilet cleaner, detergent, or other cleaners together into one bucket or onto the same surface.

Correct action

Use one product at a time and follow its original label. Rinse thoroughly with water before changing to bleach.

What to do

  1. Read the directions on the original container first.
  2. Use only one cleaning product at a time.
  3. Open a window or run ventilation and wash hands afterward.

If something happens

If there is a strong smell, eye irritation, coughing, or breathing difficulty, stop and move to fresh air immediately. Call 999 for severe symptoms.
