Household Chlorine Bleach

What is it?
This page covers household chlorine bleach containing sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl). Concentrations differ, so dilution and permitted uses must follow the original label and current Hong Kong official guidance.
How to identify it
Find sodium hypochlorite, NaOCl, the concentration and use or dilution directions on the original label. A white bottle, laundry picture or liquid colour is not a reliable identity test.

Common confusion
Laundry Detergent (HOME-CHEM-001) / Fabric Softener (HOME-CHEM-002)
Laundry detergent cleans clothes, fabric softener is used in the rinse stage, and chlorine bleach states sodium hypochlorite on the label. Similar packaging never makes them interchangeable or mixable.
Common Hong Kong household uses
Only for bleaching or disinfecting surfaces the product label permits. Remove visible soil first, then measure and dilute with cold water as the label or Centre for Health Protection guidance requires.
Preparation or handling
Ventilate the area, wear protection required by the label and use one product at a time. Never mix bleach with any other household cleaner. Rinse thoroughly with water before changing from a cleaner to bleach.
Storage
Keep in the closed, labelled original container in a cool, shaded place out of children's reach. Hong Kong official guidance says diluted solution should be used within 24 hours.
Helper tip
Stop and move to fresh air if there is a strong smell, eye irritation, coughing or breathing trouble; call 999 for severe symptoms. If it enters the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice.
