What is it?
Fabric softener is for labelled softening and fabric-care uses. Not every garment is suitable, and formulation, dose and washer compartment vary.
How to identify it
Find fabric softener, fabric conditioner, rinse-stage use and dosing directions on the original label. Bottle colour and fragrance do not identify it.
- Original label states fabric softener or conditioner
- Usually has rinse-stage or compartment directions
- Does not replace laundry detergent
Common confusion
Liquid Laundry Detergent / Household Chlorine Bleach
Detergent cleans clothes; softener treats permitted fabric in the rinse stage and cannot replace detergent.
Common Hong Kong household uses
Caring for compatible garments only as the softener, garment and washer instructions permit.
Preparation or handling
Confirm the garment allows softener, measure the label dose and use the stated washer compartment. Do not pour directly on fabric unless instructed, and do not mix it with another cleaning product.
Storage
Keep closed in its labelled original container, away from children, food and food packaging.
Helper tip
Some sports or performance fabrics may not be suitable. Follow the garment care label and product instructions.
What Ma’am or Sir may say
柔順劑落指定格,唔好當洗衣液。The employer wants the product distinguished from detergent and placed in the machine's designated softener compartment.
