Chemical safety

Never combine cleaning products in one container

Never pour two products or leftover batches into the same bottle, spray bottle, or bucket; rinse surfaces fully with water before changing product.

Critical safety ruleChemical safetySource checked: 2026-08-20
Two cleaners poured into one unlabelled spray bottle on the left and separate labelled original bottles on the right

Why it matters

Residue inside a container can react too. Mixing bleach with another cleaning product can release harmful gas.

Wrong action

Combining leftover cleaners in an unlabelled spray bottle or adding another product to an unrinsed bucket.

Correct action

Use only the one product identified for each container, handle leftovers as the label directs, and never top up with another product.

What to do

  1. Before use, identify the product and label for the container.
  2. Never combine leftovers or refill with a different product.
  3. Before changing product, stop and rinse the contact surface thoroughly with water.

If something happens

If products are mixed and there is an odour or illness, leave for fresh air immediately and do not return to deal with it. Call 999 for breathing difficulty.
