How to Clean Window Glass Safely
Clean only safely reachable interior areas and apply Hong Kong safety rules before any exterior-window work
Overview
First confirm the glass can be reached safely from indoors while standing on the floor. High-level exterior glass, leaning out and elevated access are outside this guide; stop and ask the employer to arrange a compliant method.
Tools needed
- Two clean microfibre cloths
- Window squeegee
- Small bucket or spray bottle
- Absorbent floor towel
- Cleaner permitted for the glass and product label
Cleaning steps
Confirm the safe scope
Clean only glass reachable from indoors while standing on the floor. Stop if the area requires leaning, a sill, chair or ladder.
Secure the window and floor
Close or secure movable panels as appropriate, keep children and pets away, remove trip hazards and place an absorbent towel below.
Remove dry dust first
Use a clean dry cloth from top to bottom to lift dust and loose grit before wet cleaning.
Prepare a small amount by label
Use a glass-suitable product exactly as labelled and never improvise cleaner mixtures.
Clean the interior glass
Apply a controlled amount to the cloth or reachable pane and wipe overlapping passes top to bottom, away from sockets and frame gaps.
Squeegee the moisture
Move top to bottom with slight overlap and wipe the rubber edge after every pass.
Dry and inspect
Dry edges, frame, sill and floor. Report cracked glass, loose parts or any exterior-window hazard to the employer.
