Put away toys, shoes, bags, boxes, and cords crossing the floor so routes to rooms, exits, and bathrooms stay clear.

Why it matters

A small object or cord can cause a trip, especially for children, older people, and anyone walking at night.

Wrong action

Leaving toys, shoes, shopping bags, boxes, or cords in a hallway, doorway, or beside a bed.

Correct action

Give items a fixed storage place and clear every main walkway immediately after the task is finished.

What to do

  1. Check doorways, hallways, bedside areas, and the route to the bathroom.
  2. Return shoes, toys, bags, and boxes to their fixed places.
  3. Reroute cords so none crosses a walking path.

If something happens

After a fall, make the area safe first. Do not rush to lift someone with a possible head, neck, back, or hip injury; call 999 if serious.
