How to Clean a Shower Curtain and Curtain Seal
Read the care label, treat curtain and seal separately, and dry everything fully
Overview
Fabric, plastic and coated shower curtains can have different washing limits, and a curtain seal may not be machine washable. Read the care label and maker guidance first. Do not infer machine, dryer or chemical suitability from appearance.

- Soft lint-free cloth or sponge
- Clean-water container
- Absorbent towels
- Stable ventilated drying place
- Only label-permitted cleaner and gloves
Cleaning steps
Read curtain and seal guidance
Confirm material, removal, hand- or machine-wash limits, temperature and drying method. If unclear, use conservative external cleaning only.
Dry the floor before removal
Turn off the shower and dry the floor. Stand securely on the floor while removing hooks one by one; never stand on the bath rim.
Separate curtain, seal and hardware
Keep removable curtain, fixed seal and hooks separate. Do not place metal hooks or hard fittings in a washer without permission.
Wash the curtain by its label
Use only the label-permitted hand or machine process. Do not improvise bleach, acidic products or a high-temperature setting.
Wipe the fixed seal gently
Use a slightly damp soft cloth, remove residue and dry. Stop if sealant is lifting, cracked or separating.
Dry fully and refit correctly
Dry the curtain and hooks fully in a ventilated place as directed, refit evenly and leave the curtain spread for airflow.
