Steamed Minced Pork Patty — finished dish

Recipe overview

Steamed Minced Pork Patty is a very common Hong Kong home-style steamed dish. It has a mild flavour, goes well with rice, and is suitable for children and elderly people. The dish looks simple, but the minced pork should be mixed evenly, not pressed too firmly, and not spread too thick, otherwise the center may not cook through easily.

Common mistakes

  1. The pork patty is spread too thick, so the center is hard to cook through.
  2. The minced pork is pressed too firmly and becomes hard after steaming.
  3. The seasoning is too salty and may not suit children or elderly people.
  4. The plate is put in before the water boils, making the timing inaccurate.
  5. Steaming too long makes the pork patty dry and hard.
  6. The center is not checked and may still be pink.

Tips

The most important points for Steamed Minced Pork Patty are even thickness and not pressing the pork too firmly. Mix the minced pork evenly, but do not pack it down like a paste. When cooking it for your employer's family for the first time, make it lighter in taste and ask Ma'am or Sir to taste it after steaming. Before serving, always check that the center is fully cooked.
