What is it?
This category covers non-bleach disinfectants labelled for household surfaces. A product labelled sodium hypochlorite or bleach belongs to the bleach category instead.
How to identify it
Check the complete original label for disinfectant purpose, active ingredient, concentration, compatible surfaces and contact time. Never infer identity from bottle shape, colour or smell.
- Label states household surface-disinfectant use
- Label confirms non-bleach scope and identifies the active
- Label gives contact time, surfaces and warnings
Common confusion
Toilet Cleaner / Toilet Bowl Cleaner / Household Chlorine Bleach
Disinfectant, toilet cleaner and bleach are not interchangeable or mixable. Sodium-hypochlorite products are bleach; identity comes from the original label and ingredients.
Common Hong Kong household uses
Clean first when directed, then disinfect only authorised household surfaces for the labelled contact time.
Preparation or handling
Read the complete original label before use. If an SDS is supplied or available from the supplier or manufacturer, read it too. Follow only the stated surface, dose, dilution, contact-time and protection directions, ventilate, and never mix it with any cleaner.
Storage
Keep closed and upright in its original labelled container, away from food, heat, children and pets. Never transfer it to a food or drink container.
Helper tip
Do not use it when the original label, ingredients or safety directions are missing or unreadable. Never invent a dilution, mixture or substitute use.
What Ma’am or Sir may say
用之前先睇原裝標籤;如果有附上或者搵到安全資料表,亦要睇埋。開窗,唔好同任何清潔劑溝埋。The employer requires the original label to be checked first and any supplied or available SDS to be read too, with ventilation and no mixing of cleaning chemicals.
